Kyle’s path into the entertainment industry began unexpectedly during his time at the University of Alabama. While studying journalism, he landed a summer job as a football player background actor in “The Blind Side.” That experience, along with Georgia’s new film tax incentives, inspired him to consider a career in film. A production management course later introduced him to the idea of location scouting, a role that instantly captured his interest.

Through a fortunate family connection, Kyle was introduced to industry professional Jason Underwood, who took the time to show him around soundstages and explain the responsibilities of a location manager. Soon after, Jason helped Kyle secure his first opportunity: a one-day position on a VH1 series working under location manager Tony Holley. By the end of that first day, Tony offered Kyle a role for the remainder of the season. That opportunity marked the true start of Kyle’s career and began a lasting professional relationship. Over the years, Tony has remained a mentor and collaborator, and the two have continued working together on major productions, including multiple seasons of “Stranger Things.”

Over the years, Kyle has gained valuable experience across productions of all sizes. Smaller projects taught him the importance of creativity and adaptability, while large-scale productions emphasized communication and coordination. His recent credits include “Stranger Things” seasons 4 and 5, “Red One,” and “Echo.” His achievements have earned industry recognition, including the 2022 LMGI Award for Best Locations in a Period Television Show for Stranger Things 4 and the Funwoody Behind the Lens Award for Location Manager of the Year in 2025.

As an Atlanta native, Kyle is especially passionate about the local impact of the film industry. He believes Georgia’s film tax incentives play a key role in strengthening communities by creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and boosting tourism. To Kyle, location managers are the bridge between the fantasy of film and the reality of community life, balancing creativity with responsibility.

Looking ahead, Kyle plans to continue managing locations across Georgia while expanding his knowledge of production. His long-term goal is to produce his own content and further contribute to the growth of Georgia’s entertainment industry.

Discover Dunwoody is honored to spotlight Kyle Carey and his dedication to the craft. His journey reflects the mission of the Distinguished Production Associate Recognition Program: celebrating those who bring stories to life from behind the scenes.
